Yes, You DO Need to Hustle to Become a Freelance Copywriter: My Interview on Horkey Handbook

It’s easy to become a copywriter.

You don’t need a formal education, experience, or even talent.

Thanks to the internet, any unemployed post-grad with a laptop and $100 in their pocket can become a freelance copywriter.

And, you can make oodles of money (six figures, even!) overnight.

Now, back to earth: becoming a successful freelance copywriter is hard.

There’s no magic bullet.

You’ve got to start at the bottom and hustle like a New Yorker.

And that’s why I love Gina Horkey at Horkey Handbook.

She’s one of those unicorn business coaches who’s A) a successful freelance writer herself, and B) not full of hot air when it comes to making an actual living as a freelance writer.

That’s why I was thrilled to chat with her and share my own fluff-free tips on how to become a copywriter, my #1 advice for copywriting clients, and whether life as a copywriter is what I imagined. Check out the entire interview here.

Welcome, Christine! What do you do and how long have you been in business?

I write copy and content mostly for the web, mostly for startups. Conventional business wisdom says you must choose a niche, but I’m in love with switching it up and picking the projects that interest me.

Formally I’ve been freelancing for a little bit over two years, but I dabbled with technical writing, blogging, and published a cookbook before I quit my day job.
